The newer electronic fuel injected engine tune up control is not needed as frequently as the old carburetor and distributor of engines.
You can go from 60.000 to 70.000 miles without much worry.And then the most you will need to do would be to replace the spark plugs and fuel injectors cleaned.
If your engine starts to run really rough and the SES light is coming in May you need to take it and have the engine scanned. In most parts of the discount stores that will work for free scanning engine. This will lead to engine codes that will let you know what problem you May have.
If the engine is scanned and a stalemate in the plug wire or fuel injectors can do to fix this yourself and save a lot of money.
If you get your engine scanned for free parts store make sure you buy the parts there to support their efforts.
If the cancellation comes as a fuel injector and it was just dirty and not a short fix for this is to go to the store and buy a bottle, "LUCAS" fuel injector cleaner (I have tried many different ones and "LUCAS" is the cheapest and only one I've found to work ).
Pour "LUCAS" injector cleaner in the tank (about 1 / 2 full or less would be ideal). Drive your car 50-75 miles and it should start working. On May take a few bottles, but about $ 3.00 a bottle it's worth a try. If you take it to the store that will sell for about $ 150.00 for them to do and if it dosn't work you'll still have to replace injectors (about $ 800.00). It would be better to take out $ 3.00, $ 6.00 instead of $ 150.00 and still need to replace the injectors.
I used this cleaner many, many times with good results because the people I recommended it.
It's a good idea to put a bottle of "LUCAS" injector cleaner in your fuel every 10,000 miles or so that the fuel system clean and to stop the problem before it happens.
Now that the fuel system is clean and you are from 60.000 to 70.000 miles on your vehicle, and want to work to adjust to prevent the problem before it starts, go down on your discount auto parts store and get proper spark plugs and wires for your engine.
Lift the lid on your vehicle and look for spark plug wires and see where they go. All they need to go to what is called a coil pack (used to be the distributor cap.
a little tip before you get started, Sparkplug will be a little easier to remove if the engine is warmed up before you start working on it. But do not get so hot you burn yourself work on it.
Twist all the wires on the coil pack and spark plug back and forth until it freely (do not remove more ).
If you have never done it before just go one by one. Remove the spark plug wire and then the coil pack, to coincide with a new wire from the set that you bought (make the same length), connect it to the coil package and put it in the same way he took off the old.
then take the spark plug socket (and possibly a short extension) and ratchet and remove the spark plugs. Make sure to plug the gap in the electrodes is right before installing the plug. They gaped at the factory, but sometimes they bumped and close the package.
Just repeat this process with all the wires and plugs. If you do this correctly you have to do it again for another 60.000 to 70.000 miles.
You just saved yourself an awful lot of money, depending on what engine you have 4-6-8 cylinders.
